Samarvir Sahi Golf Championship: Vinamra, Karanveer take joint lead

Vinamra Anand of Uttar Pradesh played a superb round to return a scorecard of 5 under 67 while Chandigarh’s Karanveer Singha played 6 under par score of 210 to take joint lead on Day 3 of the IGU Samarvir Sahi Golf Championship being held at the Chandigarh Golf Club greens on Thursday. Karanveer has turned out to be the most consistent player to have consistently played 3 under par rounds.

After the mid-way cut was applied, a total of 50 golfers teed off the third round on Thursday.

Anant Singh Alhawat of Haryana is one shot behind the leaders at 5 under par score of 211 while Shaura Bhattacharya of Delhi and Jujhar Singh of Chandigarh are tied fourth at 214. One shot behind them is Harimohan Singh of Uttar Pradesh at 215. National champion Aryan Roopa Anand from Karnataka is at a level par score of 216 placed at seventh spot.

Chennai Golf C’ship: Abhijit placed at 3rd spot, Karandeep Kochhar at 4th

Chandigarh’s Abhijit Singh Chadha was in pursuit following a day’s best of 66 and another closing eagle that took his total to 14-under 202 and placed him third during the ongoing Chennai Open. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan N Thangaraja’s strong back-nine ensured he struck a five-under 67 on day three to be in pole position as he enjoyed a one-stroke lead at 16-under 200.

Gurugram golfer Manu Gandas’ rear-guard action including a closing eagle helped him to a 68 keeping him in contention at 15-under 201 at the 40 lakh event.

Abhijit Singh Chadha (71-65-66) moved up one spot to third place thanks to his 66. Abhijit’s quality approach shots and wedge-play brought him birdies on the first four holes and the eighth hole for an outstanding front-nine. Chadha then dropped a bogey on the 15th but more than made up for it with an eagle on the 18th courtesy a brilliant second shot.

Karandeep Kochhar (68) from Chandigarh occupied fourth place at 12-under 204 while Bengaluru’s Khalin Joshi (70) was a further shot back in fifth position.
