It’s failure of Punjab govt: SGPC president on Amritsar blasts

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami said the latest blast near the Golden Temple was a result of the Punjab government’s “failure” to solve the previous two explosion cases.

“Had the previous two explosions been investigated thoroughly, the latest one would not have taken place,” he said.

Addressing a press conference, Dhami said the accused were nabbed by the security squad of the gurdwara body before being handed over to the police.

He said: “The third incident of explosion near Darbar Sahib within the span of a week shows that the government took these incidents lightly and failed to trace the accused.”

“The SGPC staff got in action promptly as the explosion was heard and went through the CCTV footages. They nabbed the accused at 4.15am and handed over them to the police,” Dhami said.

“This is matter of deep concern that actions are being taken to vitiate the atmosphere of Punjab. Such explosions may be part of a deep-rooted conspiracy. The government must think over it deeply and deliver its responsibility,” the apex gurdwara body chief said.

Jathedar seeks in-depth investigation

Akal Takht acting Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh also expressed concerns over the explosions. “Lakhs of pilgrims visit Darbar Sahib daily. With such incidents, there is a huge risk to one’s life,” he said.

“The Punjab government must go for in-depth investigation of the incidents. The police should bust the forces behind the accused,” the jathedar said.
