: The NIA special court here on Thursday remanded Gurinder Singh ‘Baba’, a key accused in the murder of Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh Sandhu, to police custody till September 1.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) produced the accused in the court after taking his custody from the Taran Taran police.
Baba, who is from Peeran Bad in Gurdaspur, is a key accused in the murder of Shaurya Chakkar awardee Comrade Balwinder Singh, who was shot dead in his house on October 16, 2020.
The Tarn Taran police had arrested the accused, said to be member of Sukh Bhikhariwal and Harry Chatha gang, on August 9 following a special operation launched in Nagoke Gharat situated in an abandoned place in Mand area in Tarn Taran.
His two aides, identified as Sandeep Singh alias Kala of Amritsar and Gurpreet Singh alias Randhawa, were also arrested.
Baba is a close associate of Sukhmeet Pal Singh alias Sukh Bhikhariwal and Inderjit Singh alias Harry Chatha, resident of Raishiana in Tarn Taran.
He is also involved in cross-border smuggling of drugs like heroin, opium and weapons.
Baba has been receiving arms and drugs with the help of drones from across the border through Whatsapp messages.
