“The accused, sepoy Lokesh, 22, of Chattisgarh, fled after killing his two colleagues – Havildar Gauri Shankar of West Bengal and Havildar Suryakant of Maharashtra around 2.30am,” a police official said.

He used his service weapon, an INSAS rifle, which is the standard infantry weapon of the armed forces to gun down his colleagues.

“After joint efforts of the Punjab Police and the army teams, we nabbed the accused a few kilometers away from the cantonment”, he said, adding, “An FIR has been registered against him under section 302 (murder) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act. He will be produced in court on Tuesday.”
