Three held for uploading pirated movies online in Ludhiana

Police on Saturday arrested three men from Pavilion Mall who were involved in recording movies at theatres and uploading the pirated versions online.

The accused have been identified as Bhavuk Sharma of Bhiwani, Haryana, and Munish Kumar and Gagandeep Singh from Shimlapuri. Police said they were at the mall with the intention of recording two movies on their phones.

The arrests were made based on the complaint of Amritpal Singh of Mohali, who works as an operations manager at Prime Asia Television Limited.

The complainant stated that a Punjabi movie, Snowman, had been produced by their production house and was released in movie theatres on December 2 . He had found that a recorded version of the movie has been uploaded online and he had received information that the accused trio is planning to record other movies as well.

Station house officer at Division Number 8 police station, sub-inspector (SI) Janak Raj, said that a case been registered against the accused under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, Sections 63 and 68 of Copyright Act and Section 7 of Cinematography Act .
