The district logged two fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday. No virus-induced casualties were reported. The district’s Covid count had reached 1,09,737, of which 1,07,427 patients have recovered and 2,277 have succumbed to the virus. There are 33 active cases in the district, of which 32 are under home isolation,and one patient is undergoing treatment at a government facility. The administration appealed to the residents to continue taking precautions.

Woman’s Facebook account hacked

Ludhiana The police have booked an unidentified person for hacking a city-based woman’s Facebook account, and replacing her profile picture, which was of Goddess Kali, with that of a man. The man also posted derogatory comments on the photograph. The complainant, Leena Bector of Durgapuri, Haibowal Kalan, said she had also received threats from multiple unknown numbers. Sub-inspector Harpreet Singh, station house officer, Haibowal, said a case under sections of the IT Act and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code had been lodged against unidentified accused. The police are trying to trace him.

‘Khalistan supporters’ assault Congress leader Mand

Ludhiana Kisan Congress joint co-coordinator Gursimran Singh Mand was threatened and assaulted by a group of people near Flower Chowk on Saturday afternoon. The security personnel took him to an ATM kiosk, and later the police reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Mand alleged that the accused were “Khalistan supporters,” and had targeted him for speaking against Khalistan.

Ex-youth Cong prez booked for recording video inside polling booth

A day after the Congress faced a humiliating defeat in the assembly elections, the police lodged an FIR against former district youth Congress president Rajiv Raja for recording a video of himself in the polling booth on February 20. The FIR was lodged on the statement of Ludhiana West returning officer after a video of Rajiv Raja casting his vote at a polling booth started doing the rounds on social media. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sham Singh said a case had been registered under sections of the The Representation of the People Act and Section 188 ( order is promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
