21-year-old kills girlfriend, dies by suicide in Delhi hotel, say police

Police have recovered a blood-stained knife and sulphas powder from the spot, as well as the couple’s mobile phones.

A 21-year-old man allegedly killed his girlfriend at a hotel room in outer Delhi’s Bawana before dying by suicide, police officers aware of the matter said on Wednesday.

The incident came to light on Tuesday evening at a hotel room in Bawana sector 2, police said.

Deputy commissioner of police (outer north) Devesh Kumar Mahla said police received information at about 5pm about two bodies in a hotel room. When officers reached the spot, they found that the woman’s throat had been slit, while froth was coming out of the man’s mouth.

“It was found that the couple had checked into the hotel at around 10am on Tuesday. They were both 21 years old, according to the identity documents submitted at the hotel,” the DCP said. “CCTV footage has been checked, and no one can be seen entering the room after the two went inside.”

Crime and forensic teams have inspected the spot, and police have recovered a blood-stained knife and sulphas powder from the spot, as well as the couple’s mobile phones.

Going by the probe so far, police suspect that the man killed the woman with the knife and died by suicide after consuming the sulphas tablets.

An investigator, on condition of anonymity, said the man and the woman used to work at a shoe factory in Bawana industrial area. “Preliminary investigation has revealed that the two were in a relationship for a year, but for the last few weeks, the woman was talking to someone else, which the man objected to. On Tuesday at the hotel, he asked the woman to stop talking to the other man but she disagreed. The hotel staff told police that he could hear the man shouting but when they knocked on the door, no one opened,” the investigator said.

Police said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and further investigation is underway.
