A Delhi University-affiliated college has sent an assistant professor on leave over a complaint of sexual harassment and assault filed by a female student, according to university officials aware of the developments.
The student’s complaint has been forwarded to the internal complaints committee of the university, a senior college official said, asking not to be named.
“We received a complaint on October 29, which was subsequently referred to the internal complaints committee in accordance with the prescribed standard operating procedures. The inquiry is currently underway,” the senior college official said.
A student of the college, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that the sexual assault took place on October 27.
Queries sent by HT to the professor didn’t elicit a response.
The president of the college’s student union said, “We stand firmly with the victim and demand a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation by the ICC, followed by strict action, including termination of the accused professor if the allegations are established.”
