Congress MCD candidate’s father abuses, manhandles cop; police register FIR

Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh police on Friday registered a complaint against the father of a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) candidate for abusing and manhandling a police officer, police officials said.

According to the police, Ex-Congress MLA Asif Mohammad Khan, the father of Congress MCD councillor candidate Ariba Khan was giving a speech in front of Tayyab Masjid in Shaheen Bagh to a gathering of 20-30 people when he was stopped by sub-inspector Akshay for not having permission to address a public gathering.
“When SI Akshay asked Khan whether he had permission from the election commission regarding this gathering and addressing the public, Khan became aggressive and started misbehaving with him. Khan used abusive language, criminal force and manhandled SI Akshay,” a senior police officer said.
The incident took place Friday evening.

Following the incident and a complaint from the officer, a case was registered on Friday under the relevant sections against Asif Khan.
Police’s investigation into this matter is underway. Khan could not be reached for a comment despite repeated attempts.
