Delhi LG orders agencies to identify dangerous buildings before monsoon rains

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has told civic agencies to demolish buildings classified as dangerous or repair them so that no mishap takes place during the monsoon rains

New Delhi: Days before the monsoon rains reach national capital Delhi, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to identify all dangerous buildings that may collapse during the rains and take steps to repair or demolish such structures. Saxena also told the chiefs of MCD and NDMC to submit an action taken report within a fortnight.

“The LG has directed the MCD and NDMC to make sure that such dangerous buildings do not cause any mishap or loss of lives and property or any inconvenience to the people at large. For this, the civic agencies have been directed to take appropriate action to demolish or repair such vulnerable buildings,” an official from the LG office said.

Considering the difficulties in carrying out rescue and relief operations in case of any mishap in congested areas take place, Raj Niwas has also asked the agencies concerned to identify such vulnerable areas that provide limited and restricted access for fire tenders or cranes. He has told officials to address the issue of access constraint in such locations and prepare an action plan for effective disaster management in consultation with the district magistrates concerned.

The official quoted above said the LG has already directed the agencies to ensure there is minimum waterlogging or flooding on the streets during the rains.
