A woman cab driver was attacked with stones as part of an attempted robbery, Delhi Police officers aware of the matter said on Tuesday, adding that she was able to escape with minor injuries.

The incident occurred in at around 2am on Monday near north Delhi’s Kashmere Gate area, police said.
The victim, identified as Priyanka Devi alias Pinki, a resident of Samaypur Badli, was driving her cab affiliated with ride-hailing app Uber at around 2am when an unidentified man threw stones at the vehicle, smashing its glass.
Deputy commissioner of police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said, “As soon as police received a call in this connection, personnel rushed to spot and found that the victim had retained her mobile, and the alleged attacker had fled.”
Kalsi said Devi sustained minor injuries in the attack. “She was immediately rushed to hospital and discharged after primary treatment,” he said.
Though the victim refused to file a complaint, the DCP said that police have taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and have registered a case. “On the basis of daily diary entry, we have registered a case under section 393 (attempt to commit robbery) of the Indian Penal Code against the unknown miscreant, taking suo motu cognisance of the incident at Kashmere Gate police station. Further investigation is on,” he said.
“What this driver went through is horrifying. We are in touch with the driver and wish her a speedy and full recovery. Her injury-related medical expenses will be covered under Uber’s on-trip insurance provided through a third-party insurance partner. We stand ready to support law enforcement authorities in their investigation.” an Uber spokesperson said.
