Dhankhar urges govt, opposition to find end to ongoing logjam

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday urged leaders from both treasury and opposition benches to “interact” among themselves to find an end to the ongoing logjam in Parliament.

“I have held three meetings with floor leaders. The two sides in the House have taken a rigid stand,” Dhankhar said. “I appeal to the entire House that they must interact amongst themselves and find a way out.”

On Tuesday, Dhankhar and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla held separate meetings with the floor leaders of all parties in an attempt to break the logjam that has marred the second half of the Budget session that began on March 13. While the government has been insisting on an apology from Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his comments in London about Indian democracy and institutions, a combined Opposition has been pressing for the setting up of a joint parliamentary committee to probe into the Adani issue.
