Former Intelligence Bureau officer rapes girl in Delhi hotel

Officers aware of the case details said the teenager reported the matter to the police on Tuesday, and an FIR was registered after a medical examination of the girl. Police said the suspect is on the run

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a former Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area on Monday, police said.

Officers aware of the case details said the teenager reported the matter to the police on Tuesday, and an FIR was registered after a medical examination of the girl. Police said the suspect is on the run.

The alleged suspect was a junior officer - - equivalent to the rank of a sub inspector in police force -- in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the officers said.

A senior police officer, who asked not to be named, said the suspect lured the girl with a job offer. “The man was a friend of the teenager’s father and knew her as well. He used to frequently visit the girl’s house. He was aware that she was looking for a job,” the officer said.

According to the FIR, the suspect took the teenager to a hotel in central Delhi on March 7, and raped her. “The girl went with the man since she he was known to the family. After allegedly raping her, the suspect dropped the teenager back home, and warned her against telling her parents about the incident,” the officer said citing details of the complaint.

On Tuesday, the girl told her parents about the incident who then informed the police.

Deputy commissioner of police (central) Shweta Chauhan, said that based on the girl’s statement, the man has been booked under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act.

“The rape survivor was also counselled. The accused is a resident of west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, and is on the run. We have formed multiple teams to nab him. We are looking at the footage from multiple locations to trace his whereabouts. The investigation is on,” the DCP said.
