Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday urged the people to vote for his party in the upcoming municipal corporation elections, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of not being concerned about the city’s garbage woes.

The MCD elections are scheduled for December 4, with the results set to be out on December 7. The BJP has governed the corporation for three straight terms, and the AAP is hoping to wrest control of the civic body.

Speaking at a public meeting at north Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, Sisodia said, “Garbage has piled up on streets across Delhi but the BJP is not at all concerned about it.”

In response, the BJP accused the AAP of “lying” and pointed to the air pollution plaguing the city.

The deputy CM said that if voted to power, the AAP-run civic body would clear the Capital of its three garbage “mountains”, referring to the landfill sites at Ghazipur, Okhla and Bhalswa.

“People should take selfies with the mountains of garbage because after December 7, Delhi will get rid of it soon. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has prepared a blueprint to eliminate the mountains from Delhi. That’s why, this time to remove the garbage from Delhi and the BJP from MCD, people will vote Kejriwal to power in the MCD and will elect Kejriwal’s councillors,” Sisodia said.

He also said that since AAP is running Delhi’s elected government, if the MCD too is run by the party, there will be better coordination between the civic body and the state government.

Hitting back, the BJP said AAP leaders are yet to fix Delhi’s air pollution problem or clean the Yamuna.

“Kejriwal promised to clean the Yamuna but even after eight years of rule, the AAP government has done nothing. They did nothing to improve the address air pollution. People will not trust the scam tainted politicians,” Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said.
