Felt like I was possessed by a devil, says Mumbai man who killed his brother with hammer
Nilesh Singh smashed Abhishek’s head with a hammer 10 times and slept next to the body with the hammer in his hand
A day after a 25-year-old man killed his elder brother by smashing his head with a hammer following a verbal spat at their Bandra residence, Nilesh Singh told the police that he felt as if he was possessed by a devil when he committed the crime.

Around 1.30pm, Nilesh smashed Abhishek’s head with a hammer 10 times and slept next to the body with the hammer in his hand before the police broke open the door an hour later. Their father Anil had gone out for work when the incident occurred. During interrogation, Nilesh told the police that his brother would bully him into doing chores and always stopped him from playing cricket. The Singhs supplied bread to retail outlets in the suburbs.
Inspector Jagdev Kalapad from Kherwadi police station said the family hails from Jharkand and has been living at Dyaneshwar Nagar area in Kherwadi for the past 10 years. He said Nilesh, an engineering dropout, has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian penal code. Kalpad said they were informed about the quarrel by the neighbours.
