Gurugram: Flyover, blocked road near Metro station to open November 30

Gurugram A flyover, under construction near the Huda City Centre Metro station, and the stretch that is currently shut for the construction will be opened on November 30, according to officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).

The Metro station, being the terminating point of Delhi Metro’s Yellow line, used to remain choked due to the presence of autorickshaws, e-rickshaws and cabs, offering last-mile connectivity, which used to choke the junction and result in snarls. The Haryana government, in April 2017, announced a plan to decongest the junction and the area adjoining the Metro station.
Jitender Mittal, GMDA’s chief engineer, reviewed the progress of the flyover construction on Tuesday and instructed the contractor to complete the project in a timely manner.
The flyover is likely to bring relief to the commuters who travel between the Golf Course Road and Sohna Road. The reopening of the blocked surface road will bring relief to pedestrians and passenger-ferrying vehicles.
After the construction of the low-rise flyover started in April, which is 270 metres long, the movement of pedestrians and traffic was blocked on the road between Gate No 1 and Gate No 3 of the Metro station.
A team of officials, led by Mittal, will be inspecting the construction site on Thursday.
“Flyover construction is in progress, with 70% of the work completed. We will open the flyover to traffic and the surface road, with U-turns under the flyover, on November 30. We wanted to open the flyover on October 30, but we extended the deadline by a month due to some technical issues,” said Mittal.
The GMDA prepared a detailed project report of the flyover and an L-shaped underpass at the Huda City Centre intersection, which is one of the biggest choke points in the city, last November to decongest two crossings — near Gate No 3 of the Metro station, where traffic from the Signature Towers and Subhash Chowk merges, and outside Gate No 1 of the Metro station, where traffic from Iffco Chowk Metro station, Vyapar Kendra and Sector 56 converges.
Mittal said, “The bidirectional flyover will make both these crossings signal-free for commuters coming from Subhash Chowk or Sohna Road and heading to Vyapar Kendra or Golf Course Road, and vice versa. There are two U-turns also available under the flyover to change directions.”
The L-shaped unidirectional underpass that is being constructed to decongest the intersection near Gate No 3 will be opened for public next June, the official said.
Commuters moving from Signature Towers towards Subhash Chowk, on Sohna Road, will have to use the L-shaped underpass.
TN Kaul, a resident of Ardee City, said, “We have been waiting eagerly for the opening of the flyover and traffic movement to resume on the surface road in front of the Metro station.”
