Police said neighbours had complained to the police control room about the cacophony following which two policemen were sent to the spot.

Bhupender Singh, constable posted at Badshahpur police station, and special police officer (SPO) Ranbir Singh were on patrol duty in the Badshahpur area when they were asked to reach Fazilpur Dhani village in Sector 72 around 12.30am.

Singh said there was a crowd at the spot and they were dancing and singing. “We asked them to stop the music as it was already late. Three men came to us and refused to stop the music. They started threatening and abusing us. Before we knew it, they started assaulting us. They kicked and punched me and banged my head against a wall. I sustained a head injury,” he said.

Police said the suspects also tore the uniforms of the personnel and pushed them to the ground. The locals informed the police station following which another team reached and recorded statements of the eye-witnesses.

The injured policemen were taken to Civil Hospital, said police, adding that one of the suspects was arrested on Tuesday.

Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said after assaulting the policemen, the suspects fled the spot, leaving them injured. “Both of them could not inform their seniors or to the control room as their readio devices fell to the ground during the assault and stopped working. The suspects were under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

Sangwan said they have registered a case against three persons under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 34 (common intention), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code at the Badshahpur police station. “Teams have been formed and we are conducting raids to arrest the suspects,” he said.
