Police said that all the suspects came to know each other when they were serving time at Bhondsi jail and later they formed the gang to commit robberies. The suspects came out of jail more than a month back.

Police said that the suspects were addicted to alcohol and marijuana and used the money amassed from their crimes to purchase these items.

The gang targeted restaurants, roadside eateries, scrap shops and other such business establishments, police added.

Preet Pal Sangwan, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said suspect Deepak alias Montu (20), was arrested from the Dwarka Expressway on Wednesday, while his associates Sunny (23), Harbir alias Khatu (24), Gyan Prakash alias Pandey (24), and Raj Kumar alias ‘Zehreela’ (25), were arrested from Sector 92 on Thursday.

ACP Sangwan said that the suspects robbed cash and mobile phones from two shops on November 14. “On November 11, they also committed a robbery at a scrap shop in Hayatpur. They robbed a two-wheeler belonging to the scrap dealer’s son Mohammad Gulfam, who was sleeping inside the shop,” he said.

The ACP said that suspects used the same vehicle to take Gulfam to a nearby ATM kiosk and made him withdraw 15,000, using his debit card at gunpoint before escaping. “The suspects have confessed committing at least six more robberies earlier,” he said.

ACP Sangwan said that the suspects are in police remand and further investigations are underway.
