The suspects — identified as Vijay Pal (22) and Krishan Kumar (24), residents of Bhiwani, and Rajesh Kumar (35) from Delhi’s Najafgarh — worked at driver service company Humble Mobile Solution (Drive-U), that provided cars for local and outstation trips, said police. The suspects were hired for the pick and drop facility for car servicing.

Yashwant Singh, assistant commissioner of police (Sadar), said the drivers used to replace and sell the original car parts at a garage in Sector 38, get the cars serviced there, and then drop them at the driver service company. “They duped the car owners as well as the driver service company for the past few months. It came to light after employees of the driver service company complained about the fraud to their seniors. The company filed a complaint at the Badshahpur police station on Monday, and an investigation was launched. The suspects were arrested on Tuesday,” Singh said.

A case under sections 379 (theft) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Badshahpur police station on Monday, said police. “Such car/driver services are not safe, and many people have suffered huge losses so far... A single part of a car worth over 20,000 was sold for 3,000. The suspects created such a business network, and had been selling the car parts for the past few months,” Singh added.

On July 22, the suspects were sent to a commercial building on the Sohna Road to pick up a car for servicing. They took the car to the Sector 38 garage, stole the vehicle’s catcon (a mechanical device which reduces harmful emissions created in the exhaust system of the engine) and tires, and sold them. They have so far stolen parts of at least seven vehicles,” said Tushar Thakkar, quality head of Humble Mobile Solution (Drive-U).

Thakkar also said that the company claimed to have suffered a loss of nearly 5 lakh so far. “We conducted an internal investigation, and found that there more people have been involved in such crimes across Delhi-NCR (National Capital Region),” Thakkar added.

Police are interrogating the suspects to get trace the other suspects and nab them at the earliest, said officials.
