Karan Singh calls for interfaith movement for peace at Pune event
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 5th World Parliament of Science, Religion and Philosophy at the MIT world peace university, Loni Kalbhor
If science, religion and philosophy are misused it can create a disaster, but if we have a positive approach then we can reach great heights, said Karan Singh, Padma Vibhushan, former member of Parliament and son of Kashmir’s last Maharaja Hari Singh.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 5th World Parliament of Science, Religion and Philosophy at the MIT world peace university, Loni Kalbhor, on Wednesday.
“Today is an auspicious day as we mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who has spread the message of peace in the world. It is a tragedy that religion has become a dividing factor today,” said Singh.
Singh said that the secret is not to get involved in controversial issues and one should concentrate on values of humanity. “People across the world are facing problems like poverty, fighting various diseases, gender quality among others, we need to safeguard our natural environment. We need to promote positive value in the education system,” said Singh.
Raghunath Mashelkar eminent scientist and research scholar; Vijay Bhatkar, scientist; MIT University founder Vishwanath Karad; Rahul Karad, Mangesh Karad and many other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
In the event, 92-year-old Ramjee Singh, former member of parliament, author, eminent Gandhian philosopher and 84-year-old TS Devadoss, former director of Dr Radhakrishnan Institute of Advance Study in Philosophy, University of Madras, were awarded the Rashtrapati Mahatma Gandhi Peace Prize.
