With regional folk performances being staged every few kilometers in the route to the venue of the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors’ Summit 2023, the culture quotient seems to have been on point for the three-day extravaganza.

A folk-dance troupe including Govind Tiwari from Mathura, Sanjay Kumar from Banda, Ramesh Pal from Banda and Baby Imram from Jhansi showcased the rich culture and tradition as they welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport on Friday.

“The troupes have been tirelessly practising for the big day for over a month. The group stationed at the airport welcomed the dignitaries. Then we have folk troupes performing at different spots of the city besides the main venue Vrindavan Yojna,” informed Department of Culture assistant director Reenu Rangbharti. Due to the security protocol the performances were held on the sidelines of the airport and main venue, she adds.
Ten spots in the city simultaneously witnessed different folk performances including Lucknow airport, Kalidas Marg, VVIP Guest House, 1090 crossing, Samtha Mulak crossing, Lohia Park crossing, Janeshwar Misra Park Gate, Ekana Stadium Bypass, Golf City opening, Avadh Shilpgram other than the main venue.

Jeevan Ram who has come from Ghazipur and presenting Rai folk tells, “We are a troupe of 15 people including five girls. My late grandfather Ram Janam performed in 72 countries and recently passed away at the age of 99.”
Geet Krishna from Mathura who performed Mayur folk dance tells, “I have been performing at various cities in India and have also performed to Dubai and Mauritius. It’s always a pleasure to perform for our Chief Minister and other dignitaries.”
Earlier, a cultural evening was staged at Kashi Tent City at the summit venue, Vrindavan Yojna on Thursday. The programme began with a tabla performance by Nitish followed by Zeeshan’s sarangi recital. The highlight of the evening was the Ramayan Ballet by Ayodhya based artiste Sushmita Mishra and her troupe.
The evening concluded with a Kathak presentation by Ratan Sisters — Isha and Misha. The twins are disciples of Guru Arjun Mishra and Surbhi Singh. “Performing at our hometown is always special. Staging Lucknow’s very own folk-dance Kathak at such a grand event was surely a matter of pride of us,” shared, Misha Ratan.
