Covid-19: UP’s 12 - 15-yr-olds to be vaxxed from today

Uttar Pradesh will start administering the anti-Covid-19 vaccine, Corbevax, to children between 12 and 15 years of age from Wednesday.

“There are 1.25 lakh children in this age group in the state,” said Dr Manoj Shukla, the general manager (immunisation) in the national health mission, Uttar Pradesh.

In a press statement, Dr Manoj Agrawal, chief medical officer, Lucknow, said, “Children born between January 1, 2008 and March 15, 2010 are eligible for Corbevax vaccine dose. There will be two doses, where the second dose will be administered after a gap of four weeks.”

In Lucknow, all district-level hospitals including Civil, Lok Bandhu, Balrampur, BRD Mahanagar, RS Mishra Hospital and medical institutes, including KGMU and SGPGIMS will administer Corbevax doses. Also, all 19 community health centres will also administer the vaccine.

“Vaccines are safe and effective against the Covid-19 virus. Till now 29,53,74,201 doses of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine have been administered to people in the state. In Lucknow, there are 1,94,424 children in the age group of 12 to 15 years and they will be given a dose of Corbevax,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary-general, Association of International Doctors.

Also, the precautionary dose of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine for people above 60-years of age will begin from Wednesday. Those who have taken both doses and nine months have passed since taking the second dose, can take the precautionary or third dose.

“Children can come with their Adhaar cards or any document including birth certificate or a school certificate/ID that has their date of birth. Registration will be done on-the-spot with the help of their parents’ mobile number,” said Dr MK Singh, in-charge of vaccination in Lucknow.

Separate booths have been prepared at district hospitals and hospital staff has been asked to check the age of children and guide them to designated booths.
