Health department revokes intra-district transfers of over 500 nurses done by CMOs
As per reports, transfers were done in 14 districts, including Balia, Gazipur, Mau, Azamgarh, Ambedkarnagar, Unnao, Amethi, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Etah.
The intra-district transfers of over 500 nurses within the same district done by chief medical officers (CMOs), in over a dozen districts in the state have been cancelled by the department of medical health.
As per reports, the nurses were largely transferred within the same district. In the majority of the cases, the posting of nurses, who fall under Group-B, was from one health facility to another or from one department to another.
“Nurses come under Group B employees of the state, and CMOs are not entitled to transfer or shift them. Hence, we had submitted representation with the health directorate. The health directorate has the power to transfer or shift nurses,” said Ashok Kumar, chief general secretary of the Chikitsa Swasthya Mahasangh, the body of various organisations working in the government medical sector.
“Under the current transfer session, some of the CMOs had changed the work area or desks of Group-B staff. Such transfer can be done by the head of respective departments only,” Dr Lilly Singh, director of general medical health, wrote to CMOs on Tuesday.
As per reports, transfers were done in 14 districts, including Balia, Gazipur, Mau, Azamgarh, Ambedkarnagar, Unnao, Amethi, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Etah. “CMOs of Ambedkarnagar, Unnao, Hamirpur, Balia and Kanpur Dehat had cancelled nurses’ transfer when we raised the issue, but in several districts, these erroneous transfers were not revoked,” Ashok Kumar added.
The DG medical health wrote, “If shifting of the nurses belonging to Group-B has been done by yourself (CMOs), the same may be corrected as per rules.”
The nurses have been asked to return to their previous postings.
Meanwhile, the department of medical health has also transferred around 500 nurses across the state, and Ashok Kumar made it clear that their association has no issues with it. “We are not opposing the transfer of around 500 other nurses done by the health department. Some of them have been transferred to other districts, but that is under the rules, and by the appropriate authority. Hence, we are not opposed to it,” Ashok Kumar said.
