In a series of tweets, she said, “Party candidate for Lok Sabha by poll from Azamgarh seat Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali contested the election with determination and courage. The party workers, big or small, and office bearers campaigned for Jamali. The spirit with which the party workers contested the bypoll should continue till the 2024 Lok Sabha election.”
“Not only in Azamgarh, the BSP struggle and effort to prepare the ground for the 2024 Lok Sabha election will continue across Uttar Pradesh. It is important to protect a particular community (Muslims) from being misled by the rival parties in all the upcoming elections,” Mayawati said.
BSP candidate Shah Alam aka Guddu Jamali secured third position in the bypoll as he secured 2.66 lakh votes (29.12 % of the total votes polled in the constituency). BJP candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav “Nirahua”, who won the bypoll, got 3.12 lakh votes whereas the SP candidate Dharmendra Yadav polled 3.04 lakh votes.
