An LMC official said: “The LMC had given the responsibility to the vendors after Ecogreen stopped work. However, when the vendors didn’t work, LMC again went back to Ecogreen. The company has been instructed to begin waste collection work immediately.”
A decision to this effect was taken at meeting held under the chairmanship of district magistrate (DM) Suryapal Gangwar on Thursday.
“It is wrong to say that Ecogreen was removed as it will continue to work till a final decision on it is reached upon by the authorities. Termination of contract with a company is not a one-day process and can take some time. We called Ecogreen officials to remind them of their duties of keeping the city clean,” the DM said.
“The company doesn’t want to comment about the past but has assured the authorities of doing its best,” an Ecogreen official said.
Ecogreen Energy is a subsidiary of China Jinjiang Environment Holding Company Limited (CJE) and was set up for its international business operations. Ecogreen officials said their company is one of the leading waste-to-energy companies listed on Singapore Stock Exchange. “The CJE has over 41 waste-to-energy plants in China with cumulative power generation capacity of 900+ MW and daily waste handling capacity of 59,260 tons,” they added.
