Mercury up a wee bit, but cold and fog to persist in U.P.

A thick layer of dense fog enveloped Lucknow in the morning on Tuesday. Maximum and minimum temperatures were 14.7 and 6.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Etawah was coldest in the state with the mercury dipping to 2.8 degrees Celsius.

LUCKNOW The day and night temperatures eased a little in several parts of the state on Tuesday, giving some relief to people who have been braving a severe cold spell since January 3. The Indian meteorological department has attributed this little rise in temperature to western disturbance. The forecast for the next two days is that after a brief cold day and fog on Wednesday, the western parts of UP will experience a spell of rain for a brief period on Thursday and Friday.

Under the influence of the western disturbance, weather is most likely to remain dry over the state on Wednesday. Rain/thundershowers are very likely at isolated places over west UP on January 12 and 13. Dense to very dense fog is very likely at a few places over the state on Wednesday. Cold day conditions are very likely at isolated places over the state on Wednesday, as per Lucknow met in charge, Mohd Danish.

Hardoi recorded 4, Barabanki, Faizabad and Muzaffarnagar 5.5, Prayagraj 5.6, Sultanpur and Basti 6, Jhansi 6.6, Bareilly 6.7, Moradabad 6.8, Kanpur 7, Agra 7.1, Aligarh 7.6, Meerut 7.8 and Bulandshahr 8 degrees Celsius.

The forecast for Lucknow is dense fog in the morning with cold day condition very likely and clear sky later. Maximum and minimum temperature would be around 16 and 7 degrees Celsius.
