Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, among the country’s biggest recruiters, can help in making the country self-reliant, experts said at a seminar in Lucknow on Monday.

“Around 11 crore people are employed in 6.33 crore MSMEs of the country. This sector has the potential to make all the things that required for the progress of Uttar Pradesh,” said Sushma Paul Berlia, chairperson of ASSOCHAM, national council on business facilitation and global competitiveness and chairperson of Apeejay Stya Group at the seminar on MSMEs.
“After COVID pandemic, bottlenecks in the supply side globally have led to increase of inflation and MSME sector offers solution for the problem. In this situation MSMEs can augment supply in the sector, both domestically and globally,” she said.
Speaking during the inaugural session of Uttar Pradesh MSME Seminar, deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak said the government was taking steps to attract investment in the sector.
“The emphasis is on improving law and order along with improving ease of doing business in the state. The government is taking necessary steps to attract investment and boost employment opportunities in the state, especially in the MSME sector,” he said.
“Earlier entrepreneurs used to shy away from investing in UP. Now, they are investing here because law and order has improved. U.P. also offers skilled manpower besides a huge market for investors,” he added.
“The MSME sector contributes about 50 percent of the country’s export sector and about 30 percent of the country’s GDP. We understand its importance,” the deputy chief minister said and assured all help to the industry body to increase investments in the state.
He also spoke of the single-window system that has been introduced for the convenience of entrepreneurs so that all approvals can be given to them at one place.
“For speedy settlement of commercial disputes, the UP government has opened 13 new commercial courts in the last five years,” the deputy CM said.
He also launched the ‘Dettol Diarrhoea Net Zero’ campaign to make the state free from diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia among others.
Ravi Bhatnagar, co-chairperson, ASSOCHAM CSR council & director external affairs & partnerships, South Asia, Reckitt, emphasised on increasing investments in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) sector in Uttar Pradesh.
