U.P. govt to assess minerals in Gomti, Ghaghra in Barabanki

The government, which is working to improve water levels in rivers and conserve their mineral resources, has extended the works for River Ganga cleaning to other rivers in the region.

The Uttar Pradesh government has said it would be conducting a comprehensive survey to assess minerals on the riverbeds of the Gomti and Ghaghra rivers in Barabanki district.

The government, which is working to improve water levels in rivers and conserve their mineral resources, has extended the works for River Ganga cleaning to other rivers in the region.

The survey will cover nine areas, including seven along the banks of the Ghaghra and two along the banks of the Gomti. It will assist the government to determine what changes have occurred in the condition of minerals located on the riverbeds, the government said in a note.

A total of 47.53 hectares--34.91 hectares for the Ghaghra and 12.62 hectares for the Gomti--has been identified for the survey. It will be conducted in all areas under the chairmanship of the district magistrate. The findings of the survey will be compiled under the District Survey Report (DSR) of Barabanki.

The state mining department will engage an agency approved by the National Accreditation Board for Educational Training (NABET) and Quality Council of India (QCI) to carry out the survey. While the selection of the agency is underway, the allocation of the work will be finalised through the e-tender portal.

The cost for the modification and replenishment study of riverbed minerals in the state has been fixed at ₹14,514 per hectare.
