The incident took place near Dhaurra village under the Jakhlaun police station area. According to the police, before taking the extreme step the woman had visited the Dhaurra police outpost and alleged that her drunkard husband harassed and physically abused her.

Family members and villagers later alleged that she did not receive adequate assistance from the police despite seeking help. Ordering an inquiry into the incident, Lalitpur superintendent of police Sanjiv Kumar Bajpai suspended Dhaurra outpost in-charge Vinod Kumar for alleged negligence.

Government Railway Police personnel reached the scene, recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. Police said a detailed investigation is underway into the circumstances leading to the deaths and to determine whether any lapses occurred in handling the woman’s complaint.
