MUMBAI: A 10-year-old boy drowned after he and a few other children entered a private lake to swim in Andheri (West) on Monday afternoon, civic officials said.

The deceased, identified as Dinesh Harichand, was rescued from the lake by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at around 4.52pm and rushed to Cooper Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The incident took place around 1.15pm at a lake inside the Wireless Compound in D.N. Nagar. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), two to three children from a nearby slum had entered the waterbody for a swim when Dinesh went underwater and failed to resurface.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade, DN Nagar police and a 108 ambulance were rushed to the spot. A search operation was launched with the assistance of the NDRF, which eventually traced and retrieved the boy’s body.
