1,624-page chargesheet filed in Rohit Shetty firing case
The incident took place on February 1, when five rounds were fired outside Shetty’s residence near Hasya Kalakar Mehmood Chowk in Juhu. The gang had subsequently claimed responsibility for the attack.
The chargesheet, submitted before a special court under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), names alleged shooter Deepak Sharma and Pravin Lonkar, brother of key accused Shubham Lonkar, among those arrested. Shubham Lonkar and Aarzo Bishnoi have been listed as wanted accused.
Police said investigations have ruled out an extortion angle. Instead, they suspect the attack was intended to project the influence of the Bishnoi gang in Mumbai and within the film industry. Officers indicated that Shetty’s association with actor Salman Khan may have made him a target. Steps are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding accused, with Shubham Lonkar believed to be outside India.
The court directed the registrar to verify the chargesheet.
