Mumbai: A fire broke out on Saturday in the B-wing of MK Chamber, a seven-storey building in Bandra West. The fire was reported at 10.23am and extinguished by 10.49am, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

While no one was injured in the incident, seven residents were treated at the Bhabha Hospital for suffocation and their condition was stable, said local corporator Karen D’Mello.

“There was a short circuit due to which there was a fire and residents felt suffocated. There was no harm to life or property,” D’Mello said.

The seven residents who were treated for suffocation were identified as Gazala Javed Shaikh, (47), Javed Dildar Shaikh (48), Tahera Ismail Shaikh (28), Mohimuddin Javed Shaikh (8), Ismail Akhinuddin Shaikh (38), Mariha Javed Shaikh (12) and Mehnoor Javed Shaikh (20).
