Hotel staff arrested for raping guest after New Year’s party in Ghaziabad

The Ghaziabad police on Tuesday arrested a 30-year-old hotel staff person for allegedly raping a woman guest at a hotel at Sahibabad Site IV in Ghaziabad. The 29-year-old woman had come to attend a New Year’s party at the hotel and was sleeping in one of the hotel’s rooms when the incident took place at 3.30am on January 1, police said.

The woman also said that despite requesting the hotel authorities, they did not provide her any CCTV footage to bolster her allegations and said they were out of order.

The suspect, Subodh Kumar, is from Hathras in Uttar Pradesh.

The woman said in her police complaint that after attending a New Year’s party with five of her friends, including two women friends, she came to the hotel where they had booked three rooms.

“I had taken drinks and left to sleep in my room while my other friends continued partying in another room after ordering drinks...When i switched on the lights I found traces of semen and blood on bed and I immediately informed my friends... they came downstairs with me and roughed up the suspect whom I identified...the hotel staff raped me while taking advantage of my inebriated state,” the woman said in the First Information Report. The suspect was booked under Indian Penal Code section 376 (rape).

The woman also said that despite requesting the hotel authorities, they did not provide her any CCTV footage to bolster her allegations and said they were out of order.

The police said the suspect was arrested from ISBT Kaushambi.

“The suspect was produced before a court on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody,” said Poonam Mishra, ACP (Sahibabad).
