Fire broke out at a three-storey jewellery manufacturing factory in Sector 88 late on Monday allegedly due to a short circuit in the electrical panel of the unit, fire officials said on Tuesday.

Eight fire engines were used to extinguish the flames and no casualties were reported, officials confirmed.
“On Monday, around 11.15pm, we were informed that a fire had broken out at a factory in Block B of Sector 88,” said Pradeep Kumar Chaubey, chief fire officer, Gautam Budh Nagar.
Eight fire engines from surrounding fire stations were rushed to the spot and the fire was doused in two and a half hours. However, by the time the fire was brought under control, the ground and first floor of the building had been completely gutted, officials said.
“The fire started on the ground floor of the building. The security guard of the building informed us that he spotted smoke billowing from the ground floor. Prima facie, it is suspected that a short circuit occurred in the building’s electrical panel. The panel appears to be old,” CFO Chaubey said.
As the incident took place late at night and all the employees of the factory had left for home, no one was inside the building when the fire broke out, Chaubey said, adding that no casualties were reported.
Fire officials said the damage caused by the fire will be estimated after an assessment by the factory.
