Two others, including an auto driver, were also injured in the accident. The police said the jeep is not registered.

The jeep driver, Vinod Umale, 35, a resident of Akola, was arrested by the Nizampura police on Monday.

As per the complaint filed by driver Munawar Ahmad Akbar Momin, 45, Umale was driving under the influence of alcohol.

The accident took place around 5.15pm when he was going towards Nadinaka. The truck hit the autorickshaw from behind and crashed into the two-wheeler.

Shridhar Patil, 65, a resident of Manivali in Dombivli, fell off the bike and suffered severe injuries and died on the spot.

Ankush Patil, who was accompanying him on the two-wheeler, also suffered injuries, as did the auto driver.

“The pickup truck is not registered. The driver was drunk and driving negligently. We arrested him immediately after the incident. As of now, we do not know whether Patil was riding the two-wheeler or sitting pillion. We are yet to record the statement of his injured companion,” said N Gholkar, assistant inspector, Nizampura police station.
