11-year-old Amritsar boy, 3 kin booked over gun photo posted on FB 6 years ago
However, on Friday, the boy’s name was removed from the FIR following the intervention of deputy superintendent of police (DSP, Majitha)
Amritsar Rural police have booked an 11-year-old boy, his father and two relatives, all from Chawinda Devi village, over a photo of a gun posted on the child’s Facebook account six years ago.

As part of the state government’s drive against glorification of arms, the Punjab Police on Wednesday booked them under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code, which if proven, entails a jail term of up to six months.
However, on Friday, the child’s name was removed from the FIR following the intervention of deputy superintendent of police (DSP, Majitha) Manmohan Singh.
The DSP said, “When some students of a school in Amritsar spread rumours of bomb, the action was taken against their parents, not against them. This case is similar. Parents or guardians are responsible for such actions of their wards.”
“A departmental inquiry has also been ordered to investigate this negligence (nominating the child in the FIR) and action will be taken against those responsible. This is sheer carelessness. The father’s name is in the FIR. There was no need to nominate the son,” he said.
As per the FIR, the social media cell of Amritsar Rural Police had found some gun pictures uploaded on Facebook around six years back.
Cops from the Kathunangal police station verified the related Facebook profiles and found the pictures shared on them violated orders of the district magistrate, following which an FIR was lodged.
Sarpanch booked in Kapurthala
Kapurthala police booked the sarpanch of Farid Sarai village on Friday after he posted a video on social media with his licensed revolver.
SSP Navneet Singh Bains said the sarpanch, Lakhveer Singh, was booked under Section 188 of the IPC at the Sultanpur Lodhi police station.
SSP Bains said further investigation was underway to verify the revolver used and other people present in the video. “A recommendation report will be sent to the district magistrate to cancel his arms licence,” he added.
