New Delhi: A 27-year-old man has been apprehended for allegedly defacing the Parliament Street police station wall with graffiti during senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s sit-in protest on Friday, a police officer said on Sunday.

Police registered an FIR under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Property Act. The police station is also a heritage building, built in 1913 and designated as a police station in 1920.
Police said that with the help of CCTV footage, they identified and detained the accused, a Jharkhand resident. Following questioning, an officer said he was granted bail as the offence was bailable.
On Friday, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress leaders and workers staged a seven-hour protest at the police station demanding an FIR based on the complaint of 19-year-old Delhi University student Sahil Lochab, who allegedly received pellet injuries during a July 20 Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest and lost vision in one eye. Police registered the FIR later that day.
