32-yr-old man arrested for killing Assam teen over playing video games: Police

According to police, the incident took place on Monday evening when the accused had asked the minor boy to stop playing video games on his mobile phone as examinations are taking place

A 32-year-old man was arrested in Assam’s Cachar district for allegedly killing a 13-year-old boy following a fight over playing video games in mobile phone.

According to police, the incident took place on Monday evening when the accused had asked the minor boy to stop playing video games on his mobile phone as examinations are taking place.

Father of the deceased minor boy said that at around 5pm on Monday, his son had gone to the neighbour’s house and a man there verbally assaulted him for allegedly playing video games on his mobile.

“In my absence he went to that house and after a verbal exchange, the man dragged my son to a field, beat him and left him unconscious there. When we took him to the hospital, doctors declared him dead,” the father alleged.

Superintendent of police of Cachar district, Numal Mahatta said though the fight started with a mobile video game according to onlookers, there are possibilities of other reasons behind the death of the minor.

“I have visited the house of the minor boy and it seems that there was no family dispute. The prime accused has been arrested and we will get more details after interrogation,” Mahatta said.

The officer incharge of Borkhola police station, Manmohan Raut said a complaint was lodged after the incident took place.

The body was sent for postmortem before it was cremated.

“We arrested the prime accused on Wednesday under the charges of murder based on the complaint lodged by the family members of the deceased. Once we get the postmortem report, we will be able to find the cause of death,” he said.

According to local police, it was found that the accused had slapped the boy few times and also told his mother about his addiction of playing video games. The mother had also reprimanded the child,” police said.

“In another version of the story, it has been said that the boy tried to harm himself. His unconscious body was recovered by the family members. They took him to Silchar Medical College in an unconscious state, where the doctors declared him dead,” the officials added.
