Alaya Apartment tragedy: HC stays arrest of accused SP leader

Lucknow The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Tuesday granted a stay on the arrest of Samajwadi Party MLA Shahid Manzoor, who has been named as an accused in the Alaya Apartment tragedy.

The five-storeyed apartment collapsed on January 24 possibly due to ongoing illegal construction in the building’s parking. The horrific accident claimed three lives -- Begum Haider (75), her daughter-in-law Uzma Talha (35), and Shabana Khatun.

Two other accused in the incident -- Nawazish Shahid and Mohammad Tariq -- are already lodged in prison.
