In a huge relief to outstation students coming to study at Allahabad University, the central varsity would now be providing hostel accommodation to additional 348 students in the coming academic session in its two new newly constructed hostels. Besides, an extension of the present International House, which accommodates foreign students, would further provide rooms for 34 more students who would be taking admission in different courses of AU, informed AU officials.

The hired agency which has built these hostels will soon hand over the new hostel buildings to the university administration for use, they added.

From this year, the aspirants, seeking admission at AU and hostel accommodation as well, have to apply for both at the time of filling up the application forms for admission. Once the new hostels would be handed over to varsity authorities, accommodation for 382 additional inmates would be available here.

The work for construction of the two hostels and the extension of International House had started in 2021 itself and in a record time, they are near completion. In the backdrop of the fact that the new entrants at AU often struggle for the hostels, enhanced accommodation in these three new facilities would be a gift to them in the new academic session 2022-23.

“The buildings are almost complete and now the finishing work too is in the last phase. Once fully ready, the new hostels would be handed over to the AU authorities. Among the two, the hostel for the girl students is being constructed on the premises of Women’s College campus of AU. The capacity of this hostel would be for 124 girl inmates,” said varsity officials.

At the same time, another hostel for male inmates is nearing completion at Chaitham Lines. The capacity of this hostel is of 224 students. Simultaneously, a new building having 34 new rooms is being constructed on the premises of the International House, also at Chaitham Lines.

“Continuous efforts are being made to enhance the infrastructure facilities of Allahabad University. The need for more hostels for the students was being felt for long and once the newly constructed hostels are ready for allotment, the university’s capacity to provide hostel facilities to students will increase. With the new extension of International House, better facilities will also be provided to international students by AU,” said AU’s public relation officer (PRO), Prof Jaya Kapoor.

The PRO added that at a time when AU would be providing rooms in different hostels to the students admitted in the new academic session 2022-23, the rooms would be allotted on the basis of merit of the entrance test. After allotment, students will go to the respective hostels and take admission by depositing the fees. “From this session, accommodation in Hindu Hostel will be given to students enrolling in the vocational courses,” said the PRO.
