Delhi health minister reviews progress of TB elimination programme
Under the campaign, launched in 2022, Delhi has screened nearly 878,000 people, conducted 380,000 chest X-rays, and reached 95,001 residents through itsslum initiative.
Delhi health minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Thursday reviewed the progress of the Tuberculosis (TB) elimination programme at the Delhi Secretariat, assessing the city’s performance under the national TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The meeting was attended by senior health officials along with TB cell doctors.
Under the campaign, launched in 2022, Delhi has screened nearly 878,000 people, conducted 380,000 chest X-rays, and reached 95,001 residents through itsslum initiative. The city has also set an ambitious target of screening 5,000,000 individuals, supported by 190 diagnostic and 365 treatment centres offering free TB care. Delhi has already achieved 99% of its National TB Elimination Programme target for January–November 2025.
The capital’s intensified 100-day TB case-finding effort earned it the Jan Bhagidari Award, recognising high public participation. Strong community support has also driven the Nikshay Mitra Initiative, with 4,313 Mitras registered and over 223,000 food baskets distributed, benefiting more than 100,000 TB patients.
“Delhi is firmly committed to a TB-free India,” Singh said, praising the efforts of health workers and citizens. He added that the government will continue to strengthen screening, patient support and community engagement to advance the goal of TB Mukt Bharat.
