Fed up with neglect, Faizullaganj residents protest against rain-triggered civic woes
The residents of the area are exasperated with issues like choked sewers, stench of sewage, and filth lying in the open.
LUCKNOW Every year, monsoon brings with it a host of civic issues to Lucknow’s Faizullaganj area and despite tall claims by authorities, this year is no different. The residents of the area are exasperated with issues like choked sewers, stench of sewage, and filth lying in the open.

Irked residents even staged a protest on Sunday morning to draw the attention of the civic officials to their everyday problems. In Faizullaganj’s Hariom Nagar, locals fear spread of waterborne diseases due to the presence of unclean stagnant water. They also blamed the local corporators for turning a blind eye towards their basic demands.
“There has been no cleaning in the entire area behind Ramlila Maidan for the last three months. There is filth everywhere and it stinks of sewage all day long. Besides, the sewage filth flowing on waterlogged roads is poisoning our lives,” said Mamta Tripathi, a resident. She further claimed that the entire budget kept for cleaning of drains is being misused by the corporator and the municipal officials.
Another resident Murli Prasad Verma said, “When we go with our problems to the corporators’ house, we often come back without even meeting the corporator. Even if we get to meet our elected representative, the family members of the corporator send us back after giving a bleak assurance.”
In a similar vein, Uday Pratap Yadav, a resident of Gaus Nagar, said, “I wade through sewer water every day. The condition has stayed the same for the last month. Several of our complaints have gone unnoticed... We are fed up with the ever-increasing problems and the neglect shown by the authorities.”
Stagnant water often becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes and several other insects in the area. In the past, people in the area have seen an outbreak of several diseases due to lack of basic sanitation. The area also reported the death of nearly 100 pigs due to the outbreak of African flu last year.
Despite several attempts, the corporator of the area was unreachable and unavailable to comment on the issue.
