PRAYAGRAJ Questioning of mafioso-turned-politician and former MLA Mukhtar Ansari by Enforcement Directorate officials has revealed his connection with some white-collar criminals, claim officials. During the probe, Mukhtar, who is on a 10-day remand, told officials that several people have invested in his firm “Vikas Constructions” and his father-in-law’s firm “Agaaz Constructions”.

ED officials have said that summons will soon be issued to others in the ongoing money laundering case. A probe into the case has also revealed transactions by his brother MP Afzal Ansari into Mukhtar’s company. ED officials had earlier summoned Afzal but no action has so far been taken against him.

The name of another investor -- currently lodged in jail -- has also come up during the investigation. His statement is likely to be recorded in the jail itself. However, ED officials have clarified that action will only be taken after collecting concrete evidence.
