After an increase in spread of Covid infection, atleast three dozen prisoners at Naini Central Jail were released on parole on the orders of the Supreme Court. They were given more time as pandemic raged. However, parole of all prisoners ended in January and February this year and they were supposed to return by this time.

Among the 19 prisoners who have failed to return back, 11 are from Prayagraj, 1 from Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh, 1 each from Banda and Kaushambi and five from Chitrakut. Naini Jail officials said police officials of these districts have been informed about the absconding prisoners with request to arrest them.
