Officials responsible for waterlogging to face action: Deputy CM Maurya in Prayagraj
Maurya ordered a detailed inquiry and instructed agencies to draft a “foolproof” infrastructure plan designed to meet the city’s needs for the next century.
Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Sunday said strict action would be taken against officials found responsible for waterlogging that disrupted normal life in several parts of Prayagraj. He said an inquiry had been ordered into the problem and apologised to residents who faced inconvenience.
Following a review meeting with senior officials from the district administration, Prayagraj Municipal Corporation and the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA), Maurya ordered a detailed inquiry and instructed agencies to draft a “foolproof” infrastructure plan designed to meet the city’s needs for the next century.
Expressing displeasure over the functioning of the Ganga Pollution Control Unit, Maurya ordered immediate on-site inspections to rectify operational gaps. He instructed officials to ensure that waterlogging is cleared within 24 hours of rainfall and ordered the creation of a dedicated WhatsApp group involving local representatives, municipal councillors, and officials for rapid complaint redressal.
To address recurring waterlogging, Maurya highlighted several approved drainage projects including the construction of a 40 MLD pumping station and a separate sewer line running from CMP Degree College to Mori Gate; widening of the 80 Feet Road and Dandiya drains to increase carrying capacity; and construction of a new bypass drain running from Kundan Guest House, behind the cemetery and EWS Colony, up to the Allapur pumping station.
Flood relief and crop loss surveys
Reviewing the flood situation, Maurya directed the district administration to survey crop damage across affected rural pockets and expedite compensation for farmers. District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma reported that flood-affected families in Koraon and Bara villages have been relocated to relief shelters equipped with essential supplies.
Maurya further ordered post-flood sanitation drives and the deployment of medical teams to prevent vector-borne diseases as floodwaters recede.
‘New Prayagraj’ planned along Inner Ring Road
With the first phase of the Inner Ring Road nearing completion, Maurya announced plans to develop a planned “New Prayagraj” township along its stretch. He stated that the development would incorporate hospitals, student hostels, and public utilities while cracking down strictly on illegal land plotting and real estate mafias.
Maurya also announced that teachers and non-teaching staff in schools managed by the Social Welfare Department will soon be covered under the state’s cashless healthcare scheme. Symbolic cashless health cards providing up to ₹5 lakh in coverage were distributed to 24 school cooks. Addressing requests regarding honorarium structures, Maurya assured that further enhancements would be considered in the future.
