On Friday, Covid-19 was confirmed in two people of Ghoorpur and seven people in the urban areas of Prayagraj.

Prayagraj on Friday experienced the highest single-day count of nine new Covid-19 cases in five months, prompting the district administration to begin enforcing Covid protocols.

District medical and health department records show that on September 29, 2022, the district witnessed 10 new cases followed by four new cases on October 28, 2022, and November 8, 2022, each. On October 23, 2022, with three newly diagnosed Covid cases, the district had 25 active cases—the highest count of active cases on any given day in the past five months.

District magistrate Sanjay Kumar Khatri ordered officials to crack down after discovering fresh cases. He held a meeting with officials of the district administration, the medical and health department on Friday evening and ordered that social distancing be strictly enforced in all public places where heavy crowds are seen including markets, malls, bus and railway stations.

“Increase the count of random checking in both rural and urban areas of the district including railway and bus stations. It is vital to keep a close watch on the development. There is a need to remain alert and vigilant,” he said.

On Friday, Covid-19 was confirmed in two people of Ghoorpur and seven people in the urban areas of Prayagraj. All these people had got themselves examined at different places after developing fever and cold, district health officials said.

It is to be recalled that in March-April 2022, the number of Corona-infected persons increased rapidly. At present, a sampling of less than 300 people is conducted daily. In such a situation, it is believed that if the sampling is increased by the department as before, then a larger number of corona patients could come to the fore, officials conceded.

CMO Prayagraj Dr Ashu Pandey said that no serious corona patient has come to light yet. “Corona tests will be performed on people reporting for treatment in hospitals suffering from colds and fevers. The number of sampling teams will be increased for this. People are urged to follow all the guidelines to prevent corona like wearing facemasks, maintaining social distancing and using hand sanitisers. Avoiding crowded places is best,” he said.
