The protesters said the doctors had declared the patient dead without even examining him -- a charge denied by the institute -- and that they would take him to a private hospital. The family also alleged that the doctors did not pay attention to the treatment documents that they had submitted to the institute.

Doctors at the hospital block of the institute -- earlier the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia hospital -- called the allegations of the patient’s kin unfounded. “The allegations are baseless. The patient was examined twice in the ambulance and all investigations were done. However, we will probe into the charges,” said Dr Vikram Singh, spokesperson of the institute.

Sources said the patient was first brought to the trauma centre of the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) but due to unavailability of a ventilator there, he was referred to the RMLIMS.
