Chandni Chowk-Bhugaon road project likely to begin soon

Work on road infrastructure project between NDA (Chandni Chowk) and Bhugaon is likely to begin soon, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) floating a ₹164-crore tender on Thursday after completing around 80% of the land acquisition required for the project.

The project will include a 60-metre-wide flyover, a 70-metre-long bridge over the Ram River, a 430-metre-long underpass near the PVPIIT College junction and service roads on either side of the flyover. The infrastructure is expected to improve traffic movement along the 2.2-km stretch between Chandni Chowk and Bhugaon, civic officials said.

The road is a key link for traffic travelling from Mulshi towards the Konkan region and also caters to vehicles heading towards the Pirangut industrial area, Bhugaon, Bhukum and surrounding villages.

Civic officials said the population of Bhugaon, Bhukum and adjoining areas is expected to reach nearly three lakh in the coming years.

According to PMC, around 80% of the land required for the project has been acquired.

“We have sufficient land available to start the project work. The tender process was completed within one month,” said Rajendra Jadhav, deputy engineer, road department.

“We are fed up with the traffic congestion on the Bhugaon-Chandni Chowk road. We hope the proposed flyover will help ease the problem and provide much-needed relief to commuters,” said Rahul Mane, a regular commuter on the Chandni Chowk-Bhugaon road.
