The incident happened around 10:50 am near the injured complainant’s home on Saturday night.

The injured man has been identified as Aditya Borate, 21, a businessman living in the Dattanagar area of Dudulgaon, Moshi while the accused was identified as Rihaj Gafur Shaikh, 29, a resident of the same area.

“He (accused) was standing near a piece of open land with his rickshaw late in the night when this pedestrian was walking from the same road. The rickshaw driver started asking the pedestrian some questions and the 21-year-old ignored him which enraged him and he ran his rickshaw on him,” said police sub-inspector (PSI) Vidya Mane of Dighi police station who is investigating the case.

A court has granted police custody of four days on Sunday.

The man had no prior acquaintance of the injured and claimed to be the owner of the land where he was seen standing. As the 21-year-old ignored him and walked ahead, the man chased him with his rickshaw for a distance before running him over, according to the police.

A case under Sections 307 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code along with Sections 184 and 119/177 of the Motor Vehicle Act was registered at Dighi police station.
