i The Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday laid down the foundation stone for renovation of an international sports complex at Pooth Kalan village in Outer Delhi. The CM also stressed upon the need for a robust infrastructure for sportspersons.

“Renovation on the improvement of infrastructures such as the laying of synthetic athletic tracks, foot-land, natural grass, and remodelling sports grounds and equipment will be carried out in Pooth Kalan,” the government said in a statement. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said the complex will be completed in six months.
According to the government, the complex will have a six-lane 400m synthetic athletic track, another eight-lane 100m synthetic athletic track, football field with natural grass, and facilities for hammer and discus throw, short putt, pole vault, long jump, high jump, steeplechase, and javelin throw.
The government also said under the new scheme to provide financial assistance to school students, ₹8.72 crore has been provided to 357 sportspersons. “The Delhi government has launched a new scheme in Delhi for children who are sports enthusiasts. Under the scheme, 357 talented children are being provided financial assistance for training. We hope to bring a medal for India in the future,” Kejriwal said during the event.
